My professional sentence, inspired by Daniel Pink.
"She is tenacious in her quest to help each student grow into the best version of him/herself."
(What is your sentence? What drives your work?)
As a teacher in Wayland for 22 years, you may be surprised to learn that teaching is actually my third career. I began my career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. For 10 years, I worked in a variety of settings, but my favorite was pediatrics. Next, I served in the business arena, working with a management consulting firm for 8 years. Our work focused on how to help people work together more effectively. During that time, I returned to school to broaden my education and received my undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies from Framingham State College.
After the birth of my youngest daughter, I realized that I wanted to become a teacher. I returned to Framingham State to earn a Post Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate. As a lifelong learner, I soon went on to complete my Masters Degree in Special Education. Then I went on to specialize in the field of reading at the MGH Institute of Health Professionals.
Since becoming an educator, I've had the pleasure of working with students from preschool to grade 5. Teaching allows me to draw upon all of my experiences and apply them with children in the field I love. It will come as no surprise to learn that my favorite subject is reading!
