GRADUAL RELEASE MODEL
Students understand that reading is more than just reading words. It is understanding what we read, making connections to what we know and adding to our knowledge base, to think critically about the text. Teachers use a gradual release model to give students opportunities to see and practice these strategies. We use this model to explicitly show students how readers think as we read.
